That’s how many people visited the Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) this summer! In 2011 our exhibition at the Society saw 16,000 people visit – a record for an exhibition at the venue. For 2012 we have tripled attendance – setting our own record at a time when London has seen new Olympic, Paralympic and world records set on an almost daily basis. Staging the exhibition at the same time as the Olympics and Paralympics has been fantastic – the ‘buzz’ in London is something we will never forget.
They came, they saw, and they loved it all. Our visitors’ books and emails have been overflowing with wonderful messages and comments from people from all over the world who came to see the images and stayed to enjoy the atmosphere, the friendly welcome from our staff – and the cakes!
We would like to thank every one of those visitors. And we would especially like to thank the photographers for their incredible images, the Royal Geographical Society for all its help and for enabling us to stage a fabulous exhibition in a terrific venue, the teams at Genesis Digital and Eiger International who physically built the exhibition and – above all – we would like to thank Benita and her team, who staffed the gallery every day and who were quite simply magnificent.
We’ll be back with the exhibition of winners from TPOTY 2012 next year – but you can see us at the Society before then, when we stage Travel Photography Live! there next month.
But in the meantime, here are some messages from the exhibition visitors’ book:
