The sun is (finally) beating down on the TPOTY offices. The school holidays have started and the Olympic Games are about to unleash all their sporting drama on the UK. And we can’t wait!
Over the last months the UK has indulged in its traditional past time of looking at itself through hyper-critical eyes, analysing every element of the preparation for the Games. And some elements have certainly deserved to be questioned or held up for ridicule.
But now they’re almost here, and athletes from around the world are pouring into the country, and we’re preparing to celebrate. From the opening ceremony to the closing one, the Olympic and Paralympic Games will see huge amounts of drama, joy and excitement. And those emotions will be echoed in the home countries of the sportsmen and women taking part.
Which brings us to thoughts of our own Celebration category in TPOTY 2012. Shoot six images showing a celebration – any kind of celebration: large, small, public or private, sporting, religious, cultural, domestic – and you could win a paid commission to shoot for Condé Nast Traveller magazine; an incredible opportunity for any photographer.
What will you be celebrating over the next few weeks? And will you remember to photograph it?
